A Busy Week....






Good Morning Families,

Whew! What a busy week we have ahead of us. This week we celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday, go on a field trip to the Musical Instrument Museum, the Fun Fest is Saturday, and we begin Lent with Ash Wednesday.  Please note that Mass will be at 8:30 AM in the Church on Wednesday.

**The fourth graders will be off campus in the morning only on Tuesday, February 28th. We will return to school in time to have lunch on campus.**

On Thursday, we celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday with a fun celebration with our Preschool buddies. Please send your child in with a Dr. Seuss book. If you do not have one, we will have some to share. We will also enjoy some green eggs and ham!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION 
As we enter in the season of Lent, we ask for your prayers as the fourth graders begin the process of preparing for the Living Stations of the Cross for the school. The Living Stations of the Cross will be held on Friday, April 7th at 9:30 AM. Last week, each student was given a role. We will begin preparing this week. 
 If you have Spring Break plans and will not be at school that Friday, please let us know ASAP.





CALLING ALL 4TH GRADERS AND THEIR FAMILIES.....Mini Vinnies is a wonderful way to give back to our community especially during the season of Lent. Please sign up to participate in Mini Vinnies on Tuesday, March 7th. Please refer to the weekly e-blast for more information. 


English Language Arts

NO SPELLING THIS WEEK!



There will be a grammar test and reading test on Friday, March 3rd. 

Social Studies

We will be wrapping up Chapter 3 on The Early People of Arizona. We will be preparing to take a test on this chapter. Students will also be getting information on their upcoming group project.

Math 

We will find factor pairs for numbers to 100. We will also learn the difference between prime and composite numbers. The students are going to understand the difference between multiples and factors, too.

Science

We are studying light.

  • wave lengths and energy
  • refraction 
  • lens
  • reflection 

Religion 

Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday, March 1st and we will begin praying the Daily Examine as a school each day at 11:00 AM.

During Lent, we will think of ways we can,

  • Pray
  • Fast
  • Give Alms 
We will also focus on the next set of Commandment; 4, 5, and 6. These can be found on page 137 in the Religion textbook.

Celebrating Black History Month

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

As we enter into the last days of February, we will be honoring our famous African Americans who have impacted our lives. We will watch short video clips and listen to stories on these influential people.

Looking ahead...

  • Tuesday, February 28th - Field Trip to the MIM: permission slips went home last week
  • Tuesday, February 28th - Book Tasting project is due: see Mrs. Ezell for your menu or questions
  • Wednesday, March 1st - All School Mass: Ash Wednesday
English Language Arts



There will be a spelling test on Friday, February 24th The students will work on activities in class with the words. 

We will be talking about adverbs and students will be assessed on this skill the following week on Wednesday, March 1st.

All reading comprehension activities will be done in class this week in lieu of a test.

Students will need to complete a paragraph of the week using paper and pencil and Google Classroom. ALL DIRECTIONS WILL BE REVIEWED IN CLASS. 

Social Studies

Students will be discussing influential African Americans. Students will look at Chapter 3: lessons 3 and 4 in their Discovering Arizona textbook.

Math

Students will continue learning about division using the area model.

Science

Students are currently working on Chapter 12: Lesson 2 - Sound.

Religion

Students will continue their lessons on the Ten Commandments.

Good Morning Families

Happy Valentine's Day and Happy 105th Birthday to Arizona! The students have been learning all about our state's history and are excited to share it with all of you. If you have time, please take a look at the display case outside our room as it is filled with uniquely designed Arizona birthday cards. There are also some on display in our classroom, 4A. 

Looking ahead...

  • Tuesday, February 14th - Valentine's Day and Arizona's Birthday Party  - 1:45 to 3:00 PM
  • Thursday, February 16th - 2nd trimester ends
  • Friday, February 17th - NO SCHOOL
  • Monday, February 20th - NO SCHOOL 
English Language Arts



Students will review the concepts of irregular verbs and adjectives. The quiz on Thursday will cover both concepts. 

There are no spelling words this week. We are continuing to work with Lesson 16. Students will be assessed in the areas of grammar and reading comprehension on Thursday, February 16th.

Social Studies

We will celebrate Arizona's birthday tomorrow! Students will continue to work with week 7 of the AZ Studies Weekly Newspaper. W will also continue to read about the early people of Arizona. 

Math 

The students will continue to work on long division. 

Science

Students will begin Chapter 6. 

Religion 

The students will be discussing the Ten Commandments.

Happy February!

As we enter February and come to a close with the second trimester, we look forward to a month full of fun festivities.

English Language Arts



Spelling test  Thursday, February 9th

Reading Comprehension test and Grammar test the following week on Tuesday, February 14th 

The grammar test will cover the skill of irregular verbs. 

Social Studies

The students are continuing to learn about the early people of Arizona. We will also begin working on our Arizona birthday card project.

Math

The students are continuing to work on division.  They will represent and solve division problems requiring decomposing a remainder in the tens. They will be using the place value strategy and the standard algorithm.

Science

We have finished chapter 5. The students will be taking a chapter test on Friday. They will use the previous packets as study guides, and THE TEST WILL NOT BE OPEN BOOK. (If the students pay attention in class during the review, they will be well prepared.)

Religion

We will be beginning the Ten Commandments.
